what are you using for electronics on it, I am still in the process of collecting parts to put cnc on one of two mills that I have or at least electronic table control which is what I really want. That way I can program the thing for all those projects that take a lot of back and forth with the table.

I bought a breakout board and E-stop board from e-bay. It was so long ago, I'll have to go look up the name. The control program is Mach3 which I got online also, those 3 things is what cost the most for this project. I had to get a new power supply, well, used from the surplus. It cost $5. This is a picture of the old set-up, I still have to mount the new supply and clean up the wiring some, looks like crap now, but it works! :)

I have some stuff that I got in a kit that I purchased like a year ago, so the main thing I am going to need is a couple more drivers I think and a power supply which for what I will start with I can probably use a Computer supply by putting a resistor in it to drive it at max output. I started re reading the manual for the stuff that I have and need to get it laid out and hooked up to a computer and see if I can get anywhere with it.

who gives a rats Azz what it looks like if it works you can pretty it up later.

I've been looking at building my own CNC. I know, I may as well build a foundry as well... lol. Just what I need, more irons in the fire.....

That is the picture of the one that crapped out , the one I just got is smaller and only has one 5 volt output and 2 - 12 volts. Mine are 5 volt steppers and the e-stop is 5 volt. The board operates on 12 volt and all the cooling fans are 12 volt. The surplus has lots of different power supplies from 5 to 24 volt. I really liked the one in the picture, it has 4 - 5 volt and 2 - 12 volt.I think it was $20. They didn't have any more like it. They have a bunch of stepper motors and servos. I got another set of steppers for mine, in case I have a problem. Let me know what kind of outputs you want and I'll see what they have. Almost all of them are 120 v ac, some are 240 volt.

120 volts input, one like the one you have should work as long as it has say 10 amp current rating on it. I plan to move the stuff to my big mill which will of course have to have larger more power hungry motors on it.

David.

Are they still 5 volt motors? Most of the supplies have a good amp rating, usually 8 to 20 amps.

volts depend on how they are wires anywhere from like 4 to 8 volts and the unipolar is 2 amps per phase so any thing in the range of 5 volts and 10 amps would work if I am reading the literature correctly that I have. I am thinking about using gecko drivers that will handle say 12 volts without frying the motors for the quicker response that you can get with the coils.
