Thanks for the link Jammer I'll check it out.
I think I made a little headway today, anyway I broke a couple of cutter which say's I'm doing something good or bad I have no idea.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
fired up the furnace and poured a new clamp handle for the top of the shaper, had the melt temp between 12 and 13 hundred degrees F. got a lot better finish on this one, going to have to make a new pattern this one keeps on grabbing the sand when I try to pull the match plate. it tears up around the big boss where it gets drilled and threaded. some shrinkage on the big end where I should of had a much bigger sprue or put in a shrink bob, the flash around the edge isn't really a problem as the first one had it also and I hit it with a vixen file (made for soft metals) and it filed right off.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
sorry no photos today, hands were too greasy to mess with the camera.
My mill had developed a squeak is the only way I know to describe it, when I would lower the quill and turn the star wheel loose it would not go back up without some help. So I started to pull the pinon out and oil it but them ended up dropping the complete spindle/quill package out and repacked the spindle bearings and lubes up the quill so it would stop squeaking. I guess it was about time for it, I bought the mill in 2009 and the only thing I've done is change the oil beside keep the head in tram.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
You just jump from one project to the next, CNC, Casting and now machine rebuild!!
You're trying to get stuff done before summer heat, aren't you?
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
naw was just tired of it squeaking, and the casting thing is probably not going to get into full swing until I get a handle of creating some g code on 3 D objects which for some reason are pretty easy for me to draw in BobCad.
I really need to be get back on the router and see if I can get the stuff out of the computer case and mount what I need of it on the plate that I have the cnc drivers on, so I can have it all in one box.
between mowing the yard this morning and scrapping our a bunch of alumium storm window and taking a new allergy pill the doc put me on, and the work on the mill. I pretty much lost the afternoon to the recliner.
I need to redo the tram on the head to check and make sure it hasn't moved.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
did a quick install of a laser module that I had laying around that will paint a cross hair pattern on the router table to use as an edge finder. I have the Y Axis inline with the Spindle and need to measure the offset so I can know where the spindle is at in relation to the laser.

Did a little housekeeping on the Computer to get rid of the trash that inadvertently gets shoved over onto our machines from trips to the internet.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
started today trying to cram all the electronic stuff into one box. have just about everything mounted in an old computer case that I had, but seems like the things not wanting to boot up all the way so I may have to do a reload on it.
what I started with after I pulled all the drive bays and installed a piece of 14 gauge aluminum plate as a mounting board still a couple of things to mount plus see if I can get it to come back to life. it will be a lot nicer if I can get it all working in one case. as I need this to be portable.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
another day of working on the computer has almost passed and I'm about done, most of whats left is some wiring and switches that I will have to order from the far land so it will be a while before I can get that part finished.
But today I was able to get the four panel jacks mounted and all the assorted wiring straighten up, was also able to find and old AMD heat sink that would work on this Intel board, so that means I don't have to make a duct to get cooling air onto the processor.
Here's todays photo. and the amazing thing is with all the fumbling around, drilling holes, making parts and what not, the damn thing still boots up, and this morning even made me activate it.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
thats actually everything that I need to run the router except for the monitor which I'm thinking of stripping out of the housing and putting the screen on the inside of the panel that covers that side of the case. I need to take the monitor apart and see what it will take to do it.Jammer wrote:It's filling up fast
