OK things are starting to get back to normal around here, replaced the crapped out computer with a new laptop, and received the parts that I had ordered so that I can change the stepper motor mounting on two of the axis on the router.

hoping to get into my buddies weldign shop an work on the housing for the fan wheel that I have so I can see if it will put out enough air to melt cast iron with.

Still hoping to recover a bunch of files off the C drive out of the computer that crashed.

PS. anyone know what the heck happended to Alloy Avenue, I'm still getting the notice that say's its busted when I try to read a post. they don't fix it, might as well shut it down.

I ran over to the forge today, supposed to be open forge night. No one was there, may try again tomorrow, Thursday is always open forge. I want to use some of the shop stuff and do some welding. They have a lot of tools and toys.

They said they're working on AA. That was on the 13th..?? I find it strange that the ones that joined here aren't posting here now. Still just the half dozen or so of us.
Go to the bottom of the page on AA and Mark all posts as read. Then you can view the last posts on each form page. Or post on them. I don't know if you can get into older posts. The only way I've done that is to search a topic.

Some of the guys over there are complaining. Of course we must realize that we (maybe not you and I personally, but we as a generation) have raised a generation of spoiled brats.

I haven't been doing much foundry work recently. Down here our hot season is April, May, and June; then comes the rainy season, although this year the rains began in May. We had a downpour last night. When I say downpour the guys up in northern Australia will know what I'm talking about. It can rain 6 inches in an hour. This time of year I either go up to my shop in California, where it never rains in the summer, or else work in my studio here on new sculptures in oil based clay. My studio is air conditioned. The older I get, the less inclined I feel to get on an airplane and go anywhere. I haven't been away from here in a year now.

I've got pretty good kids but if the internet goes down, they go into a panic.

I'm not planning on doing much at the forge. I want to use the saws, torches and welder. They also have a plasma cutter I'd like to try out. I may need to shape some metal but I've done some of that in the past with a hammer, vise and a propane torch. But, an anvil and power hammer will kind of fun to play with.

I have most all the tools I need to play with when I feel like playing, but it would be nice to have access to a tig welder, I know a couple guys that own one but for when I need a tig welder its more wasted time to get there then it is to do it another way.

Be nice if there were a few more people posting here but I'm kinda getting used to it being pretty empty.

Anyway I got in a little time on the router today , pretty much got the Z Axis motor turned around the way I want it so its not sticking up in the air.

Now if I could just get used to typing on this new laptop I'd be in pretty good shape.

PS also drawed up a belt guard in Solidworks to use as a first pattern to be cut on the router. Also made it by the new H/F Store and picked up a cutout tool like the one I had on the router for a spindle motor, the one I purchased came with a 1/4" collet

How much travel does it have? Mine will move about 4", not that I'll ever need that much or even be able to cut anything that deep, but it's better than needing it and not having it.

right now it has about 4 inches on the Z Axis, but it will be real easy to add a couple of inches when I need it

got the end plate for the gantry fixed, and finished up the mill work on it this morning and now have it back on the router along with the stepper motor.



So now I have a little work still left on the Z axis, (need to do some work on the cogs) then I can haul it outside and fire it up and see how it cuts with a 1/4 inch bit in it.

yes I think it looks a lot better then it did before the motor switch. I still have several things that I need to do to it like make guards to cover the belts but have to get them drawn up so I can use the router to either cut them out of something nice or make a patter to cast the with.

Anyway I'm hoping to recalibrate the thing tomorrow, and maybe do a few trial cuts, trials on Monday for sure will have some help to move it around then.

Tried a leaf blower today on my oil burner but it wasn't putting out enough air probably because of the long vacuum cleaner hose I had on it, need to see if I can do a direct hook up to the burner with it.
