Re: Cincinnati Shaper

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
as most here know I play with pocket watches from time to time, I also have a couple of Elgin 8 day clocks which were used in cars, airplanes, and travel clocks. have yet to aquire one in a travel case.
The last 8 day clock I acquired was missing the back of the case. I haven't been able to find a photo to show what the back looks like, but I needed something to keep the dirt out so I made one.
here's a shot of the front of the clock
and heres one with the back I made
its hard to see but the steel ring leaning on the clock body has a piece of clear lexan in it that I turned on the lathe to a couple thousands larger then the recess in the ring then I set it on top of a piece of 2 inch PVC pipe and used my press to dish it enough that the ring would drop over the edge.
After all the work to make it I find out that it hits one of the screw heads that hold the movement in the case so I need to make another one.

not sure about the talented individual, more like a guy with enough time on his hands to keep on till he gets it right.
good thing is that now it has a cover to keep crud and crap out of the workings on the clock.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
it took me a little while to get these two screws out due to the rust on them, one of them the slot was almost completely gone from rust, was lucky after I got them out and found couple of jewel screw in and old plate the fit as replacement. sad this in the head shape is different then the originals which were made in England sometime around 1900.
for a size reference the to parts laying on the ruler in the last photo are about 4 times as long as these screws.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
e Finally got off my butt and did some work on the Router that I started way back in January. I've been having some problems with the Driver that was connected to the X Axis. I had ordered a new replacement awhile back but hadn't gotten around to putting it in.
Yestereday I installed the new driver and now I wish that I had of ordered two more of them, which I plan on doing, nice thing is that they are Chinese and cheap but are shipped from here in the states which means that the shipping is fast.
Heres a shot of what I put in, nice thing about this driver is that its not full of surface mount bits and pieces which means that its a lot easier to fix if it smokes, and I know that the main driver chip is only about a buck fifty to replace. I also want to mention that you can download some doc's for this driver which the first ones that came in the kit I bought didn't have any that I could find.
One of the other things that I have done is to upload the plugin for using an Xbox 360 controller as a pendant to control the router with, nice thing about the Xbox is that you get a lot of bang for your 26 bucks, where as a regular old style joystick will only move two of the Axis.
I used a Rock Candy one instead of the Regular white or black controller that is recommended, a buddy of mine figured out how to get it to work. There were a couple of codes that had to be hard coded into the Mach3Mill file. The rest of the work is normal mundane stuff like installing Cable Chains and working on cleaning up the wiring mess. I also am wanting to switch out the motherboard for one that has 4 USB ports on the Board and a header where two more can be added anywhere I want them to be mounted in the case. Also am still needing to do some case work on the control box as you can see there is no front on the case I pulled the plastic front off to get rid of the Floppy drive holes as I'm not going to have one, I have an external one if needed, along with a hand full of flash drives.
That's about it for now, hope everyone had a safe and fun Holiday weekend.
