The bad part of the cylinder casting is that I didn't watch the dimensions when I made the pattern and its longer by about 3/8 inch then it needs to be which means the piston travel will be short of reaching the ends of the cylinder like it should.
So its back to the saw and hammer to make a new pattern, will stick that one on the shelf for when I need a hunk of iron that size.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
on the lighter side of things;
We've all heard about people having guts or balls. But do you really know the difference between them? In an effort to keep you informed, the definition of each is listed below:
'GUTS' is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being assaulted by your wife with a broom, and having the guts to say, "Are you still cleaning or are you flying somewhere?"
'BALLS' is coming home late after a night out with the guys smelling of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife squarely on the ass and having the balls to say, 'You're next fatty!'
I hope this clears up any confusion,

Well another day another failed casting, went to pour a brass block for a guy and damn if it didn't choke off and not fill, so it was either the melt was too cold or the gate was too small. Anyway I get to fire up and do it over again.
Really sucks just when you think things are going right for a change in the shed some little thing like this raises it ugly head and bite's you in the butt.
Good thing is thanks to the Shop Monster I'm down one on the Gopher count in the yard, little guy nabbed one this morning as it as poking its furry blind little head out of the ground, he got an extra biscuit for his efforts too!!!

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
I've had this receiver casting for a couple years now, and have finally gathered up the courage to tackle it, don't know if I'll be able to finish it as a barrel is around 275 dollars at the moment, I have the wood for the furniture (stock and forearm), and almost off of the internal parts which I have been slowly making.
I'll post up a photo from time to time on how it progresses.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
What will it be? It looks like a receiver for a lever action rifle.
I used to collect guns when I was a kid. Hard to imagine now. I used to walk into the gun shop at 14 years old and buy any gun I wanted. The collection was at my parents house when it got robbed.
Now I just have four. A nice Fox Sterlingworth 20 ga. A .38 police revolver. A Walther PPK. And an old Savage single shot .22.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
what you see in the photo is a casting that I am trying to complete for an 1885 Winchester Highwall 45/70, I've been working on making screws and pins today the only thing I don't have is a barrel, fun part is going to be making the stock if I actually get that far without screwing it up.
