Now that you will have a buffalo gun are you planning to go buffalo hunting? I understand the herds have reached a point where they need thinning.

Gopher's, tired of the furry little bastards digging up the yard, besides buffalo stink when you get up closeRasper wrote:Now that you will have a buffalo gun are you planning to go buffalo hunting? I understand the herds have reached a point where they need thinning.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
I want to see a photograph of the first gopher to be hit by a bullet from your .45/100 rifle. That is of course if there is anything left to photograph other than a stain on the grass.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Richard, I actually have no intentions of shooting the rifle more then about 5 times at a cardboard box to prove that it works, weapons that I build are sorta like you statues I like doing it, just happens that this one is something a little special to me as I have always had a soft spot for the old time buffalo guns, I think they are about the best thing that ever came down the pike, and the fact that they can, did, and still do shoot accurately out past a 1000 yards is just extra icing on the cake.
Your right thou there wouldn't by anything left but a stain when a 500 grain lead slug hit one of the little gray bastards which would just make me and the neighbor happy as a flea on a new dog.
DA
P.S. made this today (it's not finished) its for another project that I have going on.

Luckily we don't have gophers here, the only real animal that I have real issues with is cats, and dogs owners that let their dogs bark day and night....Nice looking project Davedallen wrote:Richard, I actually have no intentions of shooting the rifle more then about 5 times at a cardboard box to prove that it works, weapons that I build are sorta like you statues I like doing it, just happens that this one is something a little special to me as I have always had a soft spot for the old time buffalo guns, I think they are about the best thing that ever came down the pike, and the fact that they can, did, and still do shoot accurately out past a 1000 yards is just extra icing on the cake.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
worked on the trigger group off and on most of the day, decided that I didn't like the amount of creep in the trigger so I had to make a new one.
first shot is of it in the mill with me trimming the sides of the trigger down some.

Second shot shows the new trigger in the receiver along with the one I messed up by making the slot too wide which caused a lot of unnecessary movement in the trigger, you can see the trigger with the too wide slot laying on top of the receiver, the new one still needs a bunch of work with a file.

Fine guns are a joy to look at, to hold, to handle, to operate, and to fire. I always used, and still have one, old double shotguns. I think that Fox shotguns were the equal of, or even a bit superior to, the Parkers, though some people would disagree. I still have a 20 ga. Fox.
I had a Marlin .38/40 lever action rifle when I was a teenager. It was either a model '88 or an '89. I forget. It's been over 50 years. That was the best made gun I ever had. The machine work and fit up were perfect. The action was like velvet. I can still feel that gun in my hands.
