Mike it seems like I loose things also cause the second one that I made I can't remember where in the heck I hide it at. So I started making another one last night, have it about half done. I get to do the tricky part now which is to make the end of it look like the one in the picture. AND the six angled cuts around the piece are one of the easier things to do.

The operation that puckers me up is drilling a #57 hole (.0430 carbide drills snap like glass) which has to be about .187 deep, after countersinking an 1/8" hole about 5/16" into the rod before turning the rod down to 3/16" so it will fit into the holder.

But if you loose it or mess it up making it, you just start over until you get it done, OH Yea almost forgot you need a good magnifying visor also, anyway blind old ass does.

The last fun one I got to find that I dropped on the floor was a roller that was made out of some 3/16 silver steel that was about .156 long, liked to of never found it but it finally reared its shiny head. Guess I learned (anyway tried to learn) not to drop things when I was working on pocket watches.

here's a couple photo's to look at in between football games

First is a shot of the part where I have cut the bevels on the business end of it. Next operation is to cut six angled slots across the bevel on the large diameter for air flow

Second is a shot of the one I'm making alongside of the original part that I want some of incase I drop it in the grass, and just because I want,,,,,,for what ever reason.
orifice5.jpg
got it pretty much finished now, need to put it in the burner and see what happens, the first one I made worked great, just trying to find an easier way to cut the air passages in it, the one that I lost and can't find I zipped right thru that operation but as with old age I can't remember exactly how I did the setup. Anyway here it is.

fired up and melded down some old storm windows that have been laying around in the shed. the mold I rammed up yesterday was to pour four of the ingot molds that I been messing with, there were two that were like the original and two with the mounting boss for a handle. One of the ones with the boss tore the sand when I split the mold to pull the pattern, the part that tore stayed on the drag and I had hoped that it would stay in place when the mold was poured.

Well I didn't get lucky it floated and messed up one of the trays as you can see in the photo.

The Other three came out fine except for some shrinkage on the one with the mounting boss, which with a swipe across the belt grinder will be fine.

The rag looking thing hanging out of the sprue is some filter material that I received from Jammer I think in the box of wax that I got from him.
Stuff seems to work fine, mesh is large enough that the metal flows thru it ok, I figure that it should be places in between the two mold halves, I couldn't see when the pouring basin filled up, but then I wasn't really watching for it, I had set a metal ring on top to contain the molten metal when I poured, I guess the best way to use these would be to make a pouring cut that I can set down on top of it so that when you remelt the sprue you will only have a small amount of the cloth in the metal to contend with.

using up old storm window frames while figuring out some things like how do the filters work,,,,which is pretty good or this one did anyway.

Ran into town and picked up almost 10 gallons of used motor oil, and dropped off two empties for some more, filled the burner oil tank back up almost to the top.

I've been meaning to do some maintenance work on the burner for a while now, actually ever since I put it together. The problem was with where the burner tube and the blower were joined. It wasn't the most secure and stable joint in the fleet you might say.

If you look at the first photo you see the part that I made which fit into the end of the damper and that the burner tube was secured into it with a hose clamp that went over the little flat bar tab that was tacked welded onto it. This was a very cheap ass way of doing this seeing as to how I have the machine tools and skills to do better.

So today I was doing some other things to the burner namely I was getting measurements off the nozzle adapter cause I want to try to make one out of steel. Anyway after getting the measurement and putting the nozzle back together I grabbed up a hunk of aluminum that was laying out by the vise which happened to be just a tab bigger then 4" OD and proceeded to make a new blower/burner tube connection that would be a giant step forward in keeping the two together.

First I was going to thread it, seeing as how I have a 2" NPT Tap. Which I didn't take a photo of, But then I had the brainstorm of making it a slip fit which is why there isn't any threads inside the part in this photo. but it is dished out to clear the damper blade.
IMG_20150811_144749.jpg
Then I got the brilliant idea to cut a taper on the front so that it wouldn't look so damn big and clunky like it does in this first photo.

Second photo with taper.
IMG_20150811_150816.jpg
I put three 3/8" set screws in it to hold the burner tube in the body, and with some never seize I should be able to back them out if needed.
Anyway my buddy that can welded it together is at the hospital today, but said that he would put some stickes on it in the morning.

so hopefully tomorrow I will get it back together and fire it up and see what happens as it also has a new redneck made orifice in it with bigger air passages which should allow it to either work better of be a total F.U.

hello, not many hang out here, yes was starting to wear a little thin but seems to of calmed down. It will be interesting to see how long it stays calm.

damn almost forgot here's a shot of the burner all put back together and ready to fire up in the morning to melt some aluminum for a mold that I have ready to pour.
