making tools instead of buying them always saves me money, hopfully it will turn into a functional router bit to cut the barrel channel in the forearm of the rifle I'm working on, still a few cuts left to make on it.

the finished cutter, now to see how much wood I can screw up with it. looks nasty as all get out with the case hardening residue still on it, but it works ok

It cuts wood which is the main thing. actually it cleaned up pretty decent with a wire brush after I took the photo.

How did you do the flutes Dave

all the cuts you see on the cutter were done on the mill, except for one of the back relief cuts that because of where it was at and the size I just filed it.

there is a lot of mistakes in the cutter, but it works so I probably won't make another one, unless I need one bigger, smaller is easier to buy one.

It should of looked more like this screen capture of the redrawn cutter with the right rotation on it. except that I made a mistake in drawing this one and made the straight side of the cutter too long. but that can be easily fixed if I feel the need.

made this little guy this morning, I'm playing with the burner and needed a new back plug/whatchamacallit, so I grabbed a PVC pipe plug and a casting we went.

backside is a little rough, I filled in the indentations with some wax and didn't take a lot of pains with smoothing it out, the rest is in good shape.

started in on the stock last night, now that I can put the action onto the stock I can see where I need to cut the receiver end off about 2 inches, which will still leave some on the butt end for adjustment to fit later. by taking 2 inches off the wrist the butt plate will end up somewhere around where the sharpie line is at give or take a little.

it actually looks better then the photo, the other side is the good side but has some sap wood that I'm hoping will cut off in the thinning down process. should have a better photo tomorrow after 4 or 5 hours with a rasp.
