Utterly "SPLENDIPULOUS!!", :-) Curious, though... why not make the receivers, forearm caps and butt plates out of manganese bronze? The sheer beauty of steel, yellow bronze, and THAT WOOD literally would stop people in their tracks and have'm drooling in awe!

because I don't have the patterns to make them with, and most people wouldn't know the difference between the metals and would call I it brass.

and the big reason is I didn't have to make this receiver and internal parts were given to me.

And here all along I thought you scrounged up metal and meticulously chewed it up and spit it out into some machineable shape then did more magic to it to whittle out all the channels, holes and whatnot and likewise made all the screws, pins, etc. You've "Popped" my bubble, Dave. Looks like I'll have to go wrench back those action figures I gave to the kid down the street to replace the hero I thought I had in you. :-( Oh well.... you still do some BITCH'N NICE WORK!! :-)

By the way... maybe you can redeem your status being "all amazing" and give me some pointers and maybe even some assist with your machining talent on a couple octagon black powder pistol barrels that were given to me. They are .45 caliber (I think). I can do the wood, inlays, even cast a lot of the artsy utilitarian bits to adorn the shooter when it's done. My goal is to make'm a match set, dueling pistols, then load'em up and stuff'em into an equally nice wall hanging glass cabinet display case. Always been my mindset that an empty weapon is worthless... one never knows when push comes to shove there may not be time to futz about with grab'n ammo. These are some fairly long barrels, too, I might add which would make them pretty darn accurate (for pistol shot, center mass, at least) between 30 to 100 yds. I've always admired them long barreled dueling pistols. Would love to throw my own type of style and art into a match set.

looks like the answer that I sat here and typed yesterday didn't make it to the thread, my old brain must be forgetting stuff again.

Anyway I ordered up some new wood chisels and a few other things like some new brass and a couple other thing to roll my own shells with for this build, they should be here by the end of the first of next week.

The ebony that I ordered for the forearm tip is somewhere in the UPS Inovations mail system so who knows when that will show up.

Frank I appreciate all the compliments from you guys. If there is anything that I can do to help you out with the barrels for the dueling pistols that your wanting to build I'll sure try to help.

Black Powder weapons are best stored unloaded to the powder corroding the metal from the nitrates in it. You may be able to get away with it if using one of the new modern day substitutes which are on the market. Sounds like an interesting project. Not a lot of work to do to the barrels other then threading them for breach plugs and if cap and ball the hole for the powder drum which the nipple screws into.

From what I've seen of your work I think that you wouldn't have any problems building the pistols, if you do build them be sure and make a case for them and the assorted items that should be with them in it.

I'm well aware, Dave, of the need to "discharge, clean, reload & reprime periodically" black powder weapons. The only thing worse than an unloaded weapon is one that's loaded but when needed only goes "SNAP" when you pull the trigger. A monthly routine fire'n one shot out of each pistol keeps the eye/hand coordination in practice. Eventually it becomes instinctive and one typically won't remember the sight picture (though only a vague recollection from the dominant eye is all). Practice makes perfect and the ideal sight picture is one's focus firmly locked onto the target with an instinctive "hold" on the weapon in a position assured to be on sight, on target (center mass) and one's dominant eye's peripheral vision half focused look'n over the sight down the barrel keeping everything in alignment. Like pointing one's finger at a moving target... with a bit of lead on its movement you're assured to punch a hole in it somewhere center mass. Eventually, with enough practice, you'll get center mass hits within a stationary target (ie., pie plate at 30 yds) off a quick raise of the weapon while cocking/point & shoot. Even on the 5th Army Rifle/Pistol team we were trained NOT to use the sights on the .45's but to place the target over your shooting hand's thumb knuckle gripping the weapon... keep shooting and practicing till it becomes instinctive for instant target acquisition. With enough practice you'll be able to punch a happy face into a paper plate at 25 meters with every magazine.

I miss them days shoot'n competition matches across the country and get'n paid well for it by the Army. But yes, I hear ya about the need to include make'n ALL necessary accessories that need to be included with each weapon in the case.

most of what I did today was removing wood, if your watching it being done it's kinda like watching grass grow.

and I figured you guys were getting tired of seeing the same side so I took a photo of the other side.
