The porcelain on the inside makes one hell of a mess when it melts and turns to slag, besides I already have a nice store of top notch cast iron to feed the furnace with.

The thing that I don't have is a bin big enough to put all of my sand into, which causes me to keep reusing the same small amount. so its going to get jacked up about 16 inches onto some blocks and used as a sand bin.

I scored my stash of cast iron when I was working, its in the form of 4 and 5 inch bearing housing, and a couple of gear boxes that weigh in the 500 pound range that I scrounged at some of the asphalt plants I worked on.

started sanding the barrel today, not sure how long it will take but a pretty good guess would be about a week to 10 days

sorry guys its hard to take pictures of the sanding progress when both hands are wrapped around a piece od 220 girt sandpaper, but were still working on the barrel prep.

I did sand the butt stock down last night and put on another coat of Tung Oil. Just to have something different to do for a few minutes.

for you guys amusement here's a photo of what the gopher special looks like after a weekend of sand paper and chemicals, of course it may just be that damn blue tint from the LED light bulb that makes the barrel look blue.

I just love the wood. Your saying the barrel isn't blued and is metallic?
