You can keep those twister you have over there, I'll just put up with the occasional Cyclone, floods and droughts and searing heat

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
the twisters do get to be a pain in the ass at times. and I've seen hurricanes that do a lot more damage just takes them longer to do it.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Weather in my area has only been a nuisance... so far. Portland, OR (major city) nearest us has had some insane flooding, sinkholes and earth slides, including all the passes (both Oregon and Washington) have had major washouts and slides. It are what it are..... Hasn't effected me none... yet. I am, though, start'n to jones for warmer weather so's I can get back out in my shop and work on some artwork. Another full month, at least, I'm guess'n before I can tolerate a full day in the shop with the bay door open. Just too damn expensive to heat the damn thing without having any insulation or sheet rock... all the heat just rolls out the roof peak and eaves vents.
Hope the weather gets back to being tolerable for you folks again soon.

When I was in California I heated my shop with a 55 gallon drum I made into a wood stove. That thing put out unbelievable amounts of heat. It does take some wood, but if you have a truck and a chainsaw it's mostly free for the cutting on scrub land.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
had enough wood cutting when I was younger, damn sure am not going to repeat the experience Natural Gas is too cheap, besides the neighbors might get a little pissed off if I was to start cutting down their trees.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Rasper, Washington is a tree hugger state. Scrub land is damn near non existent and virtually all land seemingly void of inhabitants and having an abundance of obvious dead fall is nonetheless owned by someone who'd scream bloody murder if you get caught on that land cut'n up deadfall and they'll swear you stole their only means of income. People around here who have been born and raised here watch one another's properties like cattle dogs on a herd. Which is a good thing, in my opinion. But having no clue who owns those open range properties it'd take some doing to find out who you'd need to contact to get permission to enter and cut deadfall wood for firewood. As broke as this region is you can assure yourself that if you're not family, relative, or close friend of the owner they'll charge you a fee substantial enough for the privilege that'll make the effort as spendy as buy'n firewood by the chord from local providers. Chord of wood runs $250. I'd burn that in a week, at best, heating a shop the size of mine having no insulation whatsoever to keep that heat in. I have an awesome fireplace once used to heat a rather large log built hunting lodge in Alaska. It's a $2K wood stove that'll cook the hell out of a shop my size on full throttle. Once I have insulation and drywall installed it would be much easier to heat the place with the wood stove on idle and thereby extend the benefit of a chord of wood over a month maybe two. Hell, there's a property about 1/2 mile from me that all the folks downwind of him have been bitch'n about the sheer mass of old rotted deadfall and standing dead trees being such a fire hazard. If his place ever lit up it'd take off like rocket fuel throw'n embers aloft that'd settle and set fire to everyone in our subdivision which in turn would light up a ridge of hills that border over 600K acres of forest service land and another 700K acres of Indian reservation. All of it dried parched ponderosa pine and scrub oak. These ponderosa pines light up so hot they literally explode from within. Folks have offered to clear and clean up all the dead trees and deadfall on his property, including all limbs and brush for free ask'n only to keep the wood they process. The old fuck tells everyone to fuck off and get the hell off his property.
Anywhoo.... Spring's come'n. Our coldest month is upon us. February will warm up considerably to where I can start work'n in the shop again if it's anything like I've experienced in the past years living here. When and if this bear sells, I'll be hiring a crew to come in and insulate and rock the interior of this shop.
