you may be right with the day dreaming, but I'd have to wake up to actually find out and right now the shop monster says that I can't interrupt my old farts nap.Jammer wrote:Daydreaming?,?

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Mercy sakes, that is drop dead gorgeous, my friend. If you ever wish to have inlay or relief carving into any of your wood stocks I'd be more than happy to oblige. I'm not talk'n anything gawdy... just elegant enhancements of some leaf work, perhaps. I can, though, do like a mini scene of maybe a standing bear among some trees with mountains off in the distance. I see it vividly where the high portion of that stock ends down into the middle of the stock just below that high point. Or... that same scene a bit larger nearest the butt of that stock which would be behind any cheek held against the stock when firing. Gawd how I'd love to do something like that for one of these marvelous firearms you make. Please, consider.
If you like I'll copy the photo you shared, print and sketch the vision(s) I'm seeing within that beautiful wood grain and post it back to you here on the site. I'm laid up at home near 24/7 till my body heals but I'm not handicap... my arms, hands, and mind is as sharp as ever. Only tools necessary is my dremmel and bits, with some fine hand tools I've made to make fine cuts and details necessary. I assure you the artwork will be shallow but appear to be more depth by virtue of the design.
Let me know. Honestly, I'd love to do this to keep my sanity as my body continues to heal.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
Frank, put up a sketch for me to look at,
I still have a couple of days worth of beating the hell out of it with sand paper, but also need the gouge that I just bought off of Ebay to do some whittling with on it. might me nice to have one with a carved stock.
I also still have to cut in the butt plate which will change the stock size some what, I'm trying to get my hands on a Scimitar shaped brass one to put on this stock.
if you want I can send you a better photo,

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you do great work Dave, and if you get Frank to finish it off with a relief carving, wow, words will fail me

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
thanks, I just try to not screw the wood up while trying to make it look like something more than a plank

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
You certainly chose a drop dead beautiful piece of wood for this stock, that's for sure. Soooooo much potential for enhancement with mild relief carving either of scenery, wildlife or leaf motifs.
Re: Cincinnati Shaper
thanks again for the compliment on the wood, it really is just a chunk off of a limb that a guy had sawed into some inch and 5/8 planks nothing special, although I did have to do some machine work for the guy I got it off of.
it is looking better as I do more sanding on it, which I haven't done much to it today as I'm waiting for the damn glass bedding epoxy crap to dry up which takes around 24 hours, and if you don't measure the stuff really good it won't setup, nice thing is that once you open up the jars to mix it, what ever you have left has a shelf life of like 15 to 20 years. now I just need to find a tube of oil based burnt umber paint tint to color it with,
the little bit that I used last night won't hardly be noticeable unless I tell people what it is, but some jobs you need to color it, and they don't send hardly enough to do any thing with.

Re: Cincinnati Shaper
the barrel that I had on order came in today so tomorrow I get to do some machine work on the Pieper.
but just to keep me off the streets I picked up one of these from a guy I know, that wants me to refinish it, and man is it in pretty bad shape.
But I would be also if I was as old as it is, it was made around the turn of the century. I snagged this photo off of the web as I forgot to take any before photos before I disassembled it. its going to be a fun little project getting it back in shape, its for his son.
