To my phone? Cant imagine how would you have that number. I dont believe I have ever given out my cell, in large part because it doesnt work here at home and I rarely go anywhere, no service.
So, nope... no text. I have been pretty regular on checking my email lately. Been waiting on a notice for Starlink so it gets checked at least daily, lol.
Wow, Its quiet here

I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints the sinners are much more fun...

hey, it's been a while since I really saw many people except jammer on here, so was wondering how everyone was doing. I hope all of you guys are doing well and staying safe out there.
Re: Wow, Its quiet here
Sometimes life just gets in the way, but I will say since retiring in 2015 my life has been relatively busy, I have no idea how I ever found time for a paying job, my life now is full of volunteer work.

Good to hear from you. How is everything Downunder? We've all been pretty quiet. As usual, I have big plans but can't seem to get started.
Re: Wow, Its quiet here
good to see you mike, jammer, and yea, it seems like everyone else can sniff out those with any free time at all and wrap them up into doing something, lol.
Re: Wow, Its quiet here
I've been wondering what you are doing, Mite. I miss seeing you. Most of us here have passed through the painful phase of learning to cast metal so we don't ask many questions now. Now, when I go out to my foundry and fire up the furnace, I can be pretty sure the bronze casting will be just fine. I have learned to think like molten metal.
I am am more busy than ever now. At eighty-one years old I have become present to the fact that my time on this earth is rapidly running out. If I want to do something, I had best do it now. I have taken up bookbinding, I still make sculpture (mostly welded wire now), I am writing a novel, I study theoretical physics, and I play with computers. I jettisoned Windows years ago for Linux----what a relief! People sometimes ask me why I don't watch television. Where the hell would I find the time to sit and watch someone else do something when I have so many fascinating things to do myself?
I entered the world of sculpture by the back-door: I was a wood boat builder when I was younger. I had a small, very old-fashioned shipyard in Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. My smallest boat was twelve feet long, the largest eighty feet.
Here is a glimpse of some of my work:

Re: Wow, Its quiet here
I think Ive seen all of those richard, just not the top two on the second page. I still think the coolest one youve done so far was the queen that you cast out in everdur and leaded bronze. I have pics of her on here somewhere from when you posted them on alloyavenue. I think pretty much everyone I know of has kicked windows to the curb in favor for linux tbh, I did it probably 13-14 years ago and havnt even thought about going back, especially with as much bloat and crap as they're pulling now with the new windows OSes. And as you said about learning how to cast metal and stopping asking questions, I learn new stuff every time I cast stuff, and I defenitely know that will not be changing anytime soon, so Im always asking questions, trying to figure the stuff out, lol. I'd be interested to see all of your bookbinding setup looks like and what you usually use as a glue, as Ive seen alot of different types from flour based stuff all the way to PVA glues for the binding before sewing the sections together.
Re: Wow, Its quiet here
Great to hear from you all, love to be able to sit down with you all, have a few beers and just talk. At the moment I'm sitting down having a beer or three. My life revolves around family stuff, the local historical village doing blacksmith demo to school excursions, the Caboolture Woodcrafters , but I don't do much wood work, I mainly assist the crew that mills all of the logs we get, or going out with the club president picking up donated logs and timber. then I also do native animal rescue. Lifes good, I wake up every morning and get on my feet, what more do you need.

Re: Wow, Its quiet here
That would be cool to do mite, but I think it might be a too much in beer money to fly there, lol. They have the colonial villages and such around here, which is probably similar to what youre doing there with the blacksmithing, and it is alot of fun. Ive thought about volunteering to do the blacksmithing and such there, but I dont do well in the extreme heat and humidity we have here, so decided against that, lol. Ive always hated woodworking, or even the thought of it, but since I got into patternmaking, Ive been doing more of it than anything else lately I think. Ill never do furniture or anything like that, but as long as it pertains to patterns, that's fine for me, lol.
Coffee, defenitely coffee, lol.
